Reflecting on Dance Party

Reflection

I think that my scratch programming of Dance party was successful, because I was able to follow instructions given in class to create "Your own interactive dance party where sprites get down with cool costumes and funky beats". The skills and functions that I used were different from last time because I wanted to challenge myself to use much more difficult functions. when making the interactive dance party, I changed the background so that the theme would match my learning objective, to create a interactive dance party. I did not change my scratch character (Cat), because I followed the paper example given in class, to see what outcomes that will bring and because I liked it I kept it the same, with a few moderations/changes. I added new features such as drums from sounds, new colors, and props.

Reflecting: My design process

Reflection

  • What was your inspiration?
My inspiration to choose a dog as my scratch character came from my love for dogs. I really love all kinds of animals, and I love dogs the most. So, in the scratch programming that I have created the dog represents my likes. The background was also inspired by my likes, I love cold weather (Winter) the background of my scratch program there is a winter background. The gingerbread house represents my childhood likes and inspirations, because as a child I loved gingerbread houses.
  • How did you do that?
I created my backgrounds and changed my scratch programming profile by using some different elements on scratch programming, that I was unfamiliar to, so that I can challenge my self to try something new/different. The elements that I used to make my background was adding any background from the ones available in the scratch program. The elements that I used to change my cat into a dog was, using functions available under the function "Sprites".
  • What did you get stuck on? How did you get unstuck?
I got stuck on drawing more features on my dog character, I wanted to draw a hat, although I was unable to do so because I am not relatively good at drawing. This made it harder for me to attempt to do anything on my dog. I solved this problem by adding different features such as a collar, and I added more functions to the movement so that my dog will have many things to do. I have chosen many different things such as: dog sounds, point in directions, wait 1 second, move 10 steps, ask "What's your name" then wait for a few seconds, character touching colour, if on edge bounce, create a clone for the dog, a few of these actions work when the space bar is pressed and the other half work when the mouse clicks the picture of the dog.
  • What are you most proud of? Why?
I am most proud of the functions for movement that I have created and assigned to my dog character, because I went out of my comfort zone and I was a risk taker as an IB learner, I tried out new functions that were difficult.
  • What might you want to do next?
Next time I would like to do more than just one character and assign each character making it a bit more difficult and a higher level task, and challenging for me. Although, I would still like to attempt to do this so that I can explore and try out even more functions and features available on scratch programming.

Reflecting: Design notebook question

What are three aspects of yourself that you could represent through images or sound?
The three aspects of myself that represent me are:

  1. Animals: I love Dogs, because I find them very playful, and I connect with them, also I have a dog myself!

  1. Food: Food represents me because the type of food I eat shows what I like and what are my interests.

TV: TV represents me by showing my likes and dislikes, of characters, actors, backgrounds, etc.

Scratch Programming Reflection

Scratch Programming:

Today, in class we used scratch programming to show/portray "About Me". We could give the cat any movements and sound that show our interests/likes. Many people decided to change the cat character into either a different animal, object or a person. I had chosen a dog as I love animals and dogs are my favorite animal. I challenged my self to add as much motions, controls, designs as possible. I used many different aspects of scratch programming I made my dog do many actions such as move forward, turn 15 degrees, bark sounds, different backgrounds etc. I also edited my dog to make it look like my own, I added a collar around its neck with a golden coin shape underneath. although, next time I would like to choose more than one animal and make different movements for those animals to show a higher level of understanding of the task and topic: Scratch Programming. We all showed our scratch programs in the end of the lesson to see what other were successful in and what they could improve on for next time/next lesson. Next time I would also like to work in teams so that we can share ideas and I can be a knowledgeable and thinker and open minded learner. I would be knowledgeable when I share my ideas using correct IT terminology with a great understanding of the topic. I would be a thinker when I think of different ideas related to the topic and discuss them all to see which ones are wrong and right. I am open minded when working with others because in IT I carefully listen to my friends and peers and try to understand their ideas before I start to explain my own.
